Netflix Cancels “The OA”

Brit Marling in "The OA"

Netflix will no longer be travelling between dimensions.

The streaming service has announced that The OA will not be returning for a third season.

Brit Marling of Another Earth created, executive produced and starred in the series as the titular character, which is referred to as “Original Angel”.

The first season of the show saw Marling as Prairie Johnson, a blind woman who disappeared seven years ago, only to suddenly return with her sight restored. As the season unfolds, we learn what happened to Prairie (who now refers to herself as The OA) while she recruits a a group of people to help rescue others who have disappeared by opening a portal to another dimension.

Alongside Marling starred Zal Batmanglij (the show’s co-creator), Emory Cohen, Patrick Gibson, Jason Isaacs, Ian Alexander, Phyllis Smith, Brendan Meyer, Brandon Perea, Will Brill, Sharon Van Etten, Scott Wilson, Alice Krieg, and Paz Vega.

While the first season debuted in 2016, season 2 only premiered in March of this year.

“We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry,” said Vice President of Original Content for Netflix, Cindy Holland. “We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

Both seasons of The OA are available on Netflix.
