Squid Game is Netflix’s most-watched series to date, and it was just a matter of time before it was officially renewed for Season 2. After months of rumors about the show’s future, the streaming giant finally gave a green light to the second chapter of this hit Korean drama.

Netflix announced Season 2 by dropping a brief, 10-second clip featuring the iconic “red light, green light” doll. The show’s creator, writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also confirmed its renewal on social media and thanked the fans for loving and watching the show.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Gam’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world,” he wrote in a statement.

Hwang also revealed that the protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the masked antagonist the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) are both set to return. He added that we’ll also be introduced to Cheol-su, the boyfriend of the deadly animatronic doll Young-hee, in Season 2.

The first season of Squid Game premiered on Netflix in September last year and attracted 1.65 billion viewing hours in the first four weeks following its launch.
