The second chapter of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series is on the horizon, and Netflix just announced its release date. The streaming giant dropped the new teaser for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which confirms the show’s September premiere.
This true-crime drama will take us back to August 20, 1989, and it will center on brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who fatally shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home.
“While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and se-ual abuse at the hands of their parents,” reads Netflix’s official logline.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch lead the cast as Lyle and Erik Menendez, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez. Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, Dallas Roberts, Jason Butler Harner, and Enrique Murciano will join them in supporting roles.
All episodes of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will launch on Netflix on September 19. It’s the second installment of the Monster anthology franchise, which kicked off with the award-winning Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story starring Evan Peters.
