Netflix’s Marianne has been canceled after just one season.

Last year, the French horror series created a buzz when it popped up on Netflix and immediately shot up to the high 90s on Rotten Tomatoes. The series follows a young writer who is coerced into writing the stories of the malevolent witch Marianne. When she decides to stop writing, the witch begins to hurt those around her.

Despite the popularity of the series, creator and director Samuel Bodin has confirmed that unfortunately, Marianne would not be returning for a second season. He shared an image from the show which he captioned: “There won’t be a second season for MARIANNE. We are very sorry and sad about that. But we will see you in other stories…”.

Unsurprisingly, fans are disappointed by the news and regret that they will not be able to find out what happens next.

Season one of Marianne is available for streaming on Netflix now.
