One Tree Hill is one of the most beloved Y2K teen dramas, and its next chapter is just around the corner. Netflix ordered the sequel series set in the same universe, and the original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton already confirmed their return.

The sequel series hails from writer/executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards, and it will take place 20 years after the original show. It will star Bush and Burton as best friends Brooke and Peyton, facing love, insecurities, and grief while trying to raise their teenage children.

Warner Bros. Television is producing the sequel, with Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles serving as executive producers through their Chaos Machine banner, along with Emily Moss Wilson as a producer.

One Tree Hill aired on The WB/The CW for nine seasons between 2003 and 2012, and it initially centered on a rivalry between two half-brothers, before growing into the tale of friendship and family drama involving their close-knit group of friends in the small North Carolina town.

The cast of the original series also included Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Paul Johansson, Jana Kramer, and Lee Norris, but it remains unclear if any of them will return for the sequel.
