Netflix shows rarely get an early renewal, but the streaming giant is putting full trust in one of their biggest hits: The Diplomat. This political thriller is yet to return for its second season, but its future is looking bright after Netflix decided to renew it for Season 3.
The Diplomat stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to the UK trying to defuse an international crisis, forge alliances, and navigate her deteriorating marriage to a fellow career diplomat. Season 2 will see her facing some hard truths, according to Netflix’s official logline”
“A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world. Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the UK didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government.”
Season 3 plot is being kept under wraps, but creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn promised it would “flip the chessboard” and see Kate living “the particular nightmare that is getting what you want.”
In addition to Russell in the lead role, the cast of the show’s next season will also include Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Allison Janney, Ali Ahn, Ato Essandoh, and Rory Kinnear. The Diplomat will return for its six-episode second season on October 31.
