Patricia Highsmith’s iconic novel The Talented Mr. Ripley is getting another adaptation, and its release date is just around the corner. Netflix teased Ripley by dropping a brand-new trailer ahead of its April release, with Fleabag’s Andrew Scott in the lead role.

This suspense series will center on Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early ’60s New York, and here’s what it has in store, according to Netflix’s official logline:

“He’s hired by a wealthy industrialist to travel to Italy to try to convince the man’s dilettante son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to return home. Accepting the job is Tom’s first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.”

In addition to Scott and Flynn, Ripley will also star Dakota Fanning, Eliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy, and John Malkovich. This adaptation was created, written, and directed by Steven Zaillian, who also serves as one of its executive producers alongside Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel.

The series was shot in black-and-white, and Zaillian opted to take it in this creative direction because the edition of The Talented Mr. Ripley he was reading while developing the series had an evocative black-and-white cover.

Ripley will arrive on Netflix on April 4, and it will feature a total of eight episodes.
