The Idol generated a lot of controversy ever since HBO announced it two years ago, and we’ll soon get a chance to judge it on our own. The new trailer for the musical drama stars Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd and it reveals a June release date.

The Idol explores the dark side of the music industry through the tale of a rising pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp). After a nervous breakdown derailed her last tour, she develops a complicated relationship with a self-help guru Tedros (The Weeknd), which will either take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul.

In addition to the leading duo, the cast of this highly-anticipated HBO drama also includes Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Kim, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, and Hank Azaria.

The Weeknd co-created this show alongside his longtime collaborator Reza Fahim and Euphoria’s Sam Levinson. The series will feature six episodes, all directed by Levinson, following the departure of the original director Amy Seimetz, who left due to creative differences.

The Idol will premiere on HBO on June 4, shortly after having its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
