Nick Offerman and Betty Gilpin gave us many amazing TV performances over the years, and they’ll do it again—by each other’s side! Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Gilpin (GLOW) are the latest stars to join the A-list cast of Netflix’s upcoming historical drama Death by Lightning.
This historical series is based on Candice Millard’s book Destiny of the Republic and it hails from Bad Education screenwriter Mike Makowsky, director Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic), and executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones).
It will chronicle the death of James Garfield (Michael Shannon), the reluctant 20th president of the United States at the hands of his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau (Michael Macfadyen). Gilpin joined the series as the First Lady Garfield’s wife Crete, while Offerman will portray his vice president and eventual successor Chester A. Arthur.
Nick Offerman has been on a roll lately, and we’ve seen him win several awards for his guest-starring role in The Last of Us, including an Emmy and an Independent Spirit Award.
As for Gilpin, she landed several major roles since ending her three-time Emmy-nominated run on GLOW. She led Peacock’s acclaimed sci-fi comedy Mrs. Davis just last year, and will next be seen in Three Women alongside Shailene Woodley and DeWanda Wise.
