From Big Little Lies to Nine Perfect Strangers, Nicole Kidman starred in some pretty amazing TV shows in recent years—and she’s showing no signs of stopping! The first trailer for Lulu Wang’s series Expats is here and sees the Emmy-winning star trying to make the best of her life in Hong Kong.

Expats draws inspiration from Janice Y. K. Lee’s novel The Expatriates, and centers on three American women living in Hong Kong: Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo). They’re suddenly brought together by an unexpected family tragedy, which sets off a life-altering chain of events that leaves them navigating the intricate balance between blame and accountability.

Kidman opens the trailer with an emotional voiceover, saying “I just sometimes want to be alone. Where I’m not somebody’s wife, not somebody’s mother. Where I’m not defined by tragedy.”

In addition to the leading trio, Expats will also star Jack Huston, Brian Tee, and Flora Chan. The Farewell director Lulu Wang developed this series for Amazon Prime Video, and its premiere date has been set for January 26, 2024.

Expats is just one of several TV shows that Kidman currently has on the way. She’ll return in the next season of Nine Perfect Strangers, in addition to being attached to Netflix’s crime drama The Perfect Couple.
