The Night Court revival did a pretty good job rebooting NBC’s iconic 80s sitcom, and its future is looking bright. The legal comedy led by Melissa Rauch is coming back for another ride after NBC renewed it for its third season.

According to NBC’s official logline, the new series centers on “the eternally optimistic Abby Stone, [who] follows in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone, as she takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.”

Melissa Rauch fronts this series, while the supporting cast includes India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, Lacretta, and Nyambi Nyambi, plus John Larroquette returning as Dan Fielding from the original series.

The renewal of Night Court was never in question, given the strong performance of Season 2, which currently ranks as the network’s No. 1 primetime comedy. Its renewal took longer than expected due to NBC’s back-and-forth with Warner Bros. regarding the size of the Season 3 order, which will feature 18 episodes, according to Deadline.

The original Night Court ran on NBC for nine seasons between 1984 and 1992 and won four Primetime Emmys for John Larroquette’s performance during its run. Dan Rubin developed its revival for NBC alongside the lead star Melissa Rauch.
