The Nurse Jackie sequel series has been in development for quite some time, and it just found a new home. The reboot of the medical dramedy led by Edie Falco was originally in the works at Showtime, but it’s now in development at Amazon Prime Video.
According to its official logline, this sequel series will be set 10 years after we left Jackie Peyton clinging to life in the series finale. Despite losing her nursing license, she’s back on her feet, facing new dilemmas and trying to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier but also a lot more fun.
Edie Falco is returning to lead this series, and she’ll serve as one of the executive producers alongside Bob Greenblatt, the former head of Showtime, and writers Liz Flahive (GLOW) and Abe Sylvia (Palm Royale), who were both a part of the writers’ room of the original series.
Nurse Jackie originally aired on Showtime for seven seasons between 2009 and 2015, and it starred Falco as ER nurse Jackie Peyton, who’s using her job as an outlet for her substance abuse addiction. Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Peter Facinelli, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, and Ruby Jerins starred in supporting roles, but it’s unclear if any of them would return for the sequel.
