Olivia Colman reveals that portraying Queen Elizabeth in The Crown has been a great challenge.
Colman has taken on the role of Queen Elizabeth in the hit TV series following Claire Foy’s departure. The new series will be released in 2019, not long after the release of The Favorite, in which she has taken on the role of Queen Anne.
One might assume that playing royalty in a two-hour feature-length film might make portraying royalty in The Crown easier. According to Colman, this could not be further from the truth.
“It could not be more different,” she admitted when prompted to compare the two roles. “I find the (role of) Queen Elizabeth is harder because everyone knows what she looks like, everyone knows what she sounds like, everyone has an opinion on whether the casting is right.”
“I am loving the job, I am loving trying to play her, but I find her harder,” she continued. “I want to do it justice and do it well and be respectful and all of those things – and the writing is incredible so that helps.”
Below is the official trailer for The Favorite which is out in movie theaters now.
