One Day at a Time will have to take it exactly like that…
A reboot of the series from the 1970s was commissioned by Netflix two years ago, focusing on a Hispanic woman who is raising her children as a single mom.
The show was ranked as one of the best on television when it debuted in 2017 and received multiple Emmy and Critics’ Choice Award nominations.
But, it seems that the rave reviews did not automatically mean that people tuned in and Netflix has now decided to cancel the series due to low ratings.
“The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” the streaming service said.
Executive producer Mike Royce confirmed the sad news, saying the crew had never experienced such an outpouring of love.
However, it doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. Sony Pictures Television intends offering the series to other networks in the hopes that it will be picked up for a fourth season.
Let’s cross fingers.
