Max’s cancelation of Our Flag Means Death was a huge shocker for the show’s passionate fanbase, but they hoped this series would find a new home. Creator David Jenkins decided to officially raise a white flag after failing to secure an alternate home for the pirate comedy.

Our Flag Means Death chronicled the journey of gentleman-turned-pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), who decided to leave his life as a wealthy landowner behind to sail the high seas. His journey aboard the Revenge took a wild turn once his crew crossed paths with the legendary pirate captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).

Max canceled Our Flag Means Death back in January after two seasons, and its future isn’t looking any brighter two months later. After failing to find a new home for the beloved series, its creator David Jenkins took to Instagram to announce that Our Flag Means Death is officially dead in the water.

Jenkins decided to raise a white flag after many complimentary meetings and conversations and took a moment to thank the passionate fans who supported the show until the very end.

“Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly, it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss,” wrote Jenkins on social media.
