Paramount+ and Showtime are rounding out the cast of Dexter: Original Sin and another amazing actor just hopped on board. Patrick Dempsey will play one of the key roles in this promising prequel series, which chronicles Dexter Morgan’s origin story.

Dexter: Original Sin takes place 15 years before the events of the original series, and it sees the young Dexter Morgan making a transition from student to avenging serial killer after his bloodthirsty urges become impossible to ignore.

Dempsey joined the cast as Aaron Spencer, the captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department, where Dexter is completing a forensics internship. He has a decades-long relationship with his father Harry Morgan, played by Christian Slater.

Patrick Gibson will lead the cast as the young Dexter Morgan, and he’ll also be joined by Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global’s co-CEO, confirmed Dempsey’s casting and said they couldn’t be more excited to welcome him on board.

“Patrick Dempsey is a beloved actor who is internationally known for the iconic characters he has played and his performances. We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise,” said McCarthy.
