Peaky Blinders Season 5: What We Know So Far

It’s slowly coming up to a year since season 4 of Peaky Blinders aired and everyone’s already talking about when the next season will air and how the writers will follow up after the season 4 finale. Here’s what we know about season 5 so far.

When can we expect it?

The fifth season of Peaky Blinders has no confirmed release date yet. The BBC have promised that it will be with us in 2019 but it could be at any time.

Season 5 is due to go into production this fall, so it would be reasonable to expect the new season by summer 2019.

Who’s coming back?

The majority of the main cast should be coming back.  Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby), Helen McCrory (Polly Gray), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Sophie Rundle (Ada Thorne) and Finn Cole (Michael Gray) should all be returning. Joe Cole, however, will not be coming back.

There have also been reports that Aidan Gillen will join the cast as Tommy’s ally, Aberama Gold. Other recurring characters like Lizzie Starke (Natasha O’Keeffe) and Linda Shelby (Kate Phillips) should also be involved in season 5.

Will season 5 be the last?

“We’re all thinking that five will be the last one, but it’s not set in stone. I don’t want to be a hostage to that. I mean, I always hope we will get more. For all we know, we may even go beyond that,” screenwriter Steven Knight told Digital Spy.

Paul Anderson also said: “Each time, we do six episodes [per series]… and can you sum up the story in six episodes? Or do you need another six? That’s the question. If it doesn’t need a season six, I don’t think there’ll be one. But it may need one, because [six episodes is] such a short period of time.”
