“Peaky Blinders” Wins Best TV Series at NME Awards

Peaky Blinders has won Best TV Series at the NME Awards.

Other nominees for Best TV Series included End of the F***ing World, Fleabag, Stranger Things, and Top Boy. Fleabag has been dominating award season for the last two years, but last night Peaky Blinders claimed top spot.

Harry Kirton, the actor who portrays Finn Shelby in Peaky Blinders, received the award alongside music score writer Anna Calvi. “First of all, thank you very much to everybody who supports the show. Thank you very much. This is a lovely award,” Kirton said.

“I see so many faces and we have so many freedom to express ourselves,” he continued. “This is not the Oscars, and I’m not Joaquin Phoenix, but I just wanna be a voice for the voiceless in terms of all the species that we share on this planet with. Shout out the veganism, shout out to all the animals. And I know this is a bit random, but I just wanna give some love and help the planet. We need to save the planet.”

The NME Awards celebrates the year in music, although there are also special categories for TV, film, and Best Songwriter of the Decade.

The award ceremony took place at the O2 Academy Brixton in London and was hosted by Katerine Ryan and Julie Adenuga.
