After a lot of anticipation, the wait for the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is finally over! The streaming giant made a surprising choice just in time for the holidays and released this fantasy series on Disney+ and Hulu one day earlier than expected.

Based on Rick Riordan’s beloved book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the titular 12-year-old hero, who must come to terms with the fact he’s actually a demi-god. His life gets even more complicated after Zeus accuses him of stealing his thunderbolt, and he must join forces with his best friends to restore order to Olympus.

Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri star as the series’ main heroes Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood, with Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jay Duplass, and Lance Reddick in supporting roles.

Disney+ pushed the release of Percy Jackson and the Olympians from December 20 to December 19, and this wasn’t a coincidence. Pamela Levine, head of marketing at Disney Branded Television, revealed that the early premiere is “a special thank you” to the amazing and dedicated fans who have enthusiastically supported this project.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will feature a total of eight episodes, released weekly following the two-episode premiere.
