Attention Elvis Presley fans: there’s a new HBO documentary coming out called Elvis Presley: The Searcher. The film is executive produced by Priscilla Presley and shows a refreshingly honest side of Elvis Presley that not many got to see. The documentary includes interviews with artists who knew Presley and were inspired by him, like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.

A Glimpse Inside The Real Elvis

Elvis Presley: The Searcher strays away from the altered information we may know about Elvis, and instead offers a glimpse into his soul as we learn about what inspired him and how he transformed into the characters he played and the music he performed.

What Does Priscilla Think?

Priscilla saw how Elvis truly connected to his audience during his performances. She knew that music was in his blood and that it freed him. “We’re very, very proud of it. After watching the film I thought, I don’t know if the fans are going to like it, because they see an idol. They know him as a movie star. The King of Rock and Roll. And now we’re exposing what went on behind the scenes. How are they going to take that? Do they want that image taken away? But then I started thinking, well, if they truly cared for Elvis Presley, truly, then they need to see what happened. If you loved him before this, you will love him even more after. Because the film humanizes him. You really get to know him.” said Priscilla Presley in an interview with Parade.

Elvis Presley: The Searcher premieres on HBO Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m. ET.
