Saturday Night Live is returning to NBC this fall, but it will be missing one notable cast member when it returns. Punkie Johnson announced her decision to leave the iconic sketch comedy series after being a part of its cast for four seasons.

Johnson dropped the news about her departure from SNL during a recent comedy show and later doubled down on her statement in a video shared on Instagram.

“It’s no bad blood, it’s no bridges burnt, it’s no hard feelings. SNL was a dream I didn’t even know I could achieve. I was part of one of the most elite institutions in comedy, and I’m so grateful for it… but my time there has come to an end.” Johnson said in the video.

Johnson started her comedy career as a stand-up comedian at The Comedy Store in California before joining SNL in 2020. She was initially credited as a featured player before being promoted to repertory status in 2022, and she stayed on board for four seasons.

In addition to being a part of the SNL cast, Johnson’s credits include guest roles in TV shows Space Force, Love Life, and Ghosts, and we’ve recently seen her in the hit teen comedy Bottoms.
