Candice Carty-Williams’s hit novel Queenie is finally getting its TV adaptation, and we’ll get to see it this June. Hulu teased the release of this series by dropping the first trailer, which sees the titular heroine looking for love in all the wrong places.

This series centers on a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman from south London, Queenie Jenkins, who seeks comfort in all the wrong places after a messy breakup with her long-term boyfriend, only to realize she has to face the past head-on before she can rebuild.

Queenie is based on the novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams, who serves as one of the show’s executive producers, alongside Steve November and Sarah Conroy of Further South Productions. She also serves as the showrunner, while Joelle Mae David and Makalla McPherson directed the series.

Newcomer Dionne Brown will lead the cast of Queenie, which also includes Samuel Adewunmi, Bellah, Sally Phillips, Jon Pointing, Tilly Keeper, Llewella Gideon, Michelle Greenidge, Cristale De’Abreu, Elisha Applebaum, Mim Shaikh, and Joseph Marcell in supporting roles.

Queenie will feature a total of eight episodes, set to premiere on Hulu on June 7, while Channel 4 will handle distribution in the UK and Ireland.
