BBC recently unveiled an impressive slate of new TV shows coming our way in the future, including The Listeners. The BAFTA-nominated actress Rebecca Hall will lead the way in this intriguing drama, based on Jordan Tannahill’s novel of the same name.

Hall will play a popular English teacher Claire, whose life takes a wild turn once she starts hearing a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear. After the mysterious noise upsets the balance of her life, Claire goes to multiple doctors to discover the source, but with little success.

She finds solace in one of her students Kyle, after learning he also hears the same sound. They end up developing an unlikely friendship and isolate themselves from their loved ones after meeting a mysterious couple, who claim that “the hum” they hear could be a gift.

According to BBC’s official release, this series explores “the seduction of the wild and unknowable, the human search for the transcendent, the rise of conspiracy culture in the West, and the desire for community and connection in our increasingly polarized times.”

Rebecca Hall is best known as the star of Vicky Cristina Barcelona and director of Passing, but we’ve also seen her lead the acclaimed mini-series Parade’s End and Tales from the Loop.
