Park Chan-wook’s long-awaited limited series The Sympathizer is finally coming to HBO this spring, and a new teaser gave us a taste of things to come. Robert Downey Jr. leads the way in the new promo clip for the highly-anticipated adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s hit novel.

HBO’s official logline describes The Sympathizer as “an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.”

The series draws inspiration from Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and it was created for HBO by Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar.

Park, whose credits include acclaimed films Oldboy and The Handmaiden and mini-series The Little Drummer Girl, also directed the series, alongside Fernando Meirelles and Marc Munden.

The Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. will play multiple roles as the show’s main antagonist, and he’ll be joined by Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Phanxine, Vy Le, Ky Duyen, Kieu Chinh, Duy Nguyen, Alan Trong, Sandra Oh, and Marine Delterme.

The Sympathizer will arrive on HBO on April 14, and it will feature a total of seven episodes.
