We haven’t seen Robin Wright take any TV roles since House of Cards ended its run, but she’s gearing up for her big comeback. The Emmy-nominated actress is getting ready to lead Amazon Prime Video’s suspenseful family drama The Girlfriend, which she’ll also direct.

Based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name, The Girlfriend centers on Laura, a woman whose seemingly perfect life comes crashing down when her only son brings home his new girlfriend. Laura is convinced she isn’t who she claims she is, and things will go from bad to deadly as she sets out to prove to her family that her hunch was right.

Wright will be joined by Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs of London) as Laura’s husband Howard, Laurie Davidson (Mary and George) as their only son Daniel, and Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon) as his girlfriend Cherry.

In addition to playing the lead role, Wright will also direct and executive produce The Girlfriend, and she can’t wait to sink her teeth into this project.

“I’m thrilled to be directing and acting in this wildly delicious psychological thriller filled with plot twists and surprising character turns, and to be working with such talented actors, Olivia and Laurie, and an overall amazing cast & crew…so excited!” she said in a statement.
