It’s not often that we get to see Sacha Baron Cohen take on serious roles, but the actor’s next project will be just that.

The Brit is known for making politicians and ordinary citizens put themselves in awkward positions by engaging with his various aliases in shows such as Who Is America and Ali G, but he also has an impressive range of acting chops.

Cohen will now be taking on the role of Israeli secret agent Eli Cohen.

Eli Cohen was a former clerk who was recruited by the Mossad and spied on Syria before being captured and executed during the ‘60s.

Gideon Raff, who created Prisoners of War on which Homeland was based, has written and directed The Spy, which will be shown on Netflix in September.

Noah Emmerich, Hadar Ratzon Rotem, Waleed Zuaiter also star alongside Cohen.

All six episodes of The Spy will premiere on September 6th.
