Vault Comics’ hit series Barbaric is getting its TV adaptation thanks to Netflix, and the streamer tapped a perfect duo to lead it. Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart landed lead roles in this high-profile series, while Michael Bay is in talks to direct.
According to Deadline, this series will be a perfect mix of gonzo violence and humor, and it’s been described as Deadpool meets Game of Thrones. It will take us to a Medieval fantasy world, where a barbarian Owen (Claflin) must unite with his talking axe (voiced by Stewart) to take on a great evil.
Barbaric is based on a comic book series by writer Michael Moreci and artist Nathan Gooden, and Sheldon Turner was in charge of adapting it for Netflix. Michael Bay is in talks to make his TV directing debut with this project once Barbaric officially goes to series.
Sam Claflin landed this role after a string of major TV projects. He received his first Golden Globe nomination for Daisy Jones & the Six, and will soon lead the adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo. As for Patrick Stewart, the X-Men and Star Trek star is fresh off making his latest appearance as Jean-Luc Picard in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Picard.
