Ratched created quite a splash when it premiered on Netflix in 2020, but if you’re expecting it to come back—we’ve got some bad news for you. Its leading lady Sarah Paulson recently confirmed that Ryan Murphy’s psychological thriller series won’t be back for Season 2.

Envisioned as a prequel to the cult classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, this series centers on its most sinister character—the asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. We got to witness her origin story in late 40s California, where he moved to seek employment at the leading psychiatric hospital, conducting new and unsettling experiments on the human mind.

Paulson recently confirmed the fate of the series and said it won’t be coming back for another season. This isn’t a huge shocker considering it’s already been four years since its release, and Ryan Murphy moved on to other projects with Netflix in the meantime, including the true crime anthology series Monster, the mystery thriller The Watcher, and the upcoming American Sports Story.

In addition to Paulson in the titular role, the star-studded cast of this series also included Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
