Sean Bean has revealed that he now turns down roles if his character dies on screen.

Bean is notorious for playing characters that face an untimely demise. In fact, it has become something of a running joke that one ought not to get too attached to any character he plays. His characters never survive for long.

Over the years, the actor has had significant roles in GoldenEye, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and Game of Thrones. Now, Bean has told The Sun that he deliberately turns down roles if his character dies because it is “all a bit predictable.”

“I’ve said: ‘[Audiences] know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!’ I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable,” he said.

“I’ve played a lot of baddies. They were great, but they weren’t very fulfilling – and I always died,” he added.

Back in 2014, a “Don’t Kill Sean Bean” social media campaign was launched by fans to discourage agents from killing him off too early. It looks like Bean was paying attention because he won’t be accepting any “predictable” character roles any time soon.

Sean Bean will star in the new wartime mini-series World on Fire, which premieres on September 29th on BBC One.
