Bridgerton followed the book order for the first two seasons, but things are going to change when Season 3 comes our way. The upcoming season will deviate from the book series order and put a focus on Penelope and Colin’s love story.
Unlike the third book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series An Offer from a Gentleman, which put Benedict front and center, the third season of the beloved Netflix series will focus on Colin (Luke Newton) instead. A shift in order makes sense because Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has been longing after him for a long time, but she was left heartbroken after overhearing him tell his friends he would never consider marrying her in Season 2.
The cast of Bridgeton attended Netflix’s FYSEE Panel on Sunday night, and Nicola Coughlan took a moment to discuss what the new season has in store for Penelope.
“Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story. I have kept that secret since two weeks into season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here,” said Coughlan.
The casting of the new season is currently underway and Jess Brownell is set to replace Chris Van Dusen as showrunner for the third and fourth seasons.
