“Star Trek” Boss Reveals How He Convinced Patrick Stewart To Reprise Role of Captain Picard

Alex Kurtzman has revealed how he managed to convince Patrick Stewart to get involved with the Next Generation of Star Trek.

Patrick Stewart famously starred as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the TV Star Trek franchise. When it was announced that a new spin-off series about Picard was going to be made, Stewart publicly stated that he did not want to reprise his role as the iconic captain.

It has recently been announced, however, that his mind has been changed and the actor is indeed on board with appearing in the new series.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Star Trek boss Alex Kurtzman has revealed what it took to win Stewart over.

“Obviously, Patrick’s gone on record saying he could never play that part again,” Kurtzman stated. “Getting him to say yes was its own amazing thing because Patrick is incredibly brilliant and motivated from a place of real heart and love.

“What Patrick understood so deeply over so many years is how much Picard influenced people’s lives and how, of all the captains in the world of Trek, in many ways he was the one that was the biggest beacon for people. In some ways, even more than Kirk.”

He continued: “It was a very emotional thing for all of us to engage with each other because Patrick needed to make sure that we were coming from the right place and that we wanted to protect what Next Gen means to so many people, and what his character, specifically, means to so many people.”

So basically, Patrick Stewart is doing it for the fans.
