The Acolyte polarized fans and critics after premiering on Disney+ earlier this summer, and its run has been pretty short. The streaming giant canceled their latest Star Wars series after a single season, despite wrapping up the story on a cliffhanger.
The Acolyte was set at the end of the High Republic era, and it centered on a former Padawan, who’s forced to reunite with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes and confront forces more sinister than they ever anticipated along the way.
Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae led the cast of this series, which also included Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, Margarita Levieva, Lauren Brady, Leah Brady, Harry Trevaldwyn, and David Harewood.
The Acolyte was off to a solid start, and the two-episode premiere on June 4 generated 4.8 million views on its first day, with the tally rising to 11.1 million views globally after five days of streaming. Unfortunately, this show failed to sustain its momentum, and viewership numbers plummeted as the weeks went by.
Despite solid critical reception, The Acolyte also suffered from review bombing on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb and divided fans with its portrayal of the Jedi and storylines involving the use of the Force.
