The future of Survival of the Thickest has been uncertain for quite some time, but Netflix finally gave its second season a green light. Michelle Buteau is coming back for more hilarious adventures as Mavis Beaumont after the streamer announced the show’s renewal.

Survival of the Thickest centers on Mavis Beaumont, described as a Black, plus-size, and newly single woman, who unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist.

The series was co-created for Netflix by its star Michelle Buteau, and draws inspiration from her acclaimed book of essays. Over the course of the first season, we’ve watched Mavis trying to not only survive but thrive “with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss”, per Netflix’s official logline.

In addition to Buteau in the lead role, the first season of Survival of the Thickest also starred Tasha Smith, Tone Bell, Taylor Selé, Garcelle Beauvais, Marouane Zotti, Liza Treyger, Anissa Felix, Anthony Michael Lopez, Monnae Michaell, and Usama Siddiquee.

Buteau co-created Survival of the Thickest for Netflix with Danielle Sanchez Witzel, and they’re credited as executive producers alongside Linda Mendoza, A24’s Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich, plus Mosaic’s Anne Hong.
