Amazing things happen whenever Kate Winslet and HBO join forces, and their next series together is just around the corner. The new trailer for the darkly comedic limited series The Regime is here, and it sees Winslet playing a power-hungry chancellor struggling to stay in control.
Chancellor Elena Vernham (Winslet) grows paranoid and unstable after not leaving the palace for quite some time and seeks comfort in all the wrong places. She finds an unlikely confidant in a volatile soldier Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), but her attempts to expand her power result in the palace and the country fracturing around her.
In addition to Winslet and Schoenaerts, the star-studded cast of The Regime will also include Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, Guillaume Gallienne, Hugh Grant, Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, and Stanley Townsend.
The Regime hails from showrunner and writer Will Tracy, who also directed several episodes and executive produced the project alongside Winslet, Stephen Frears, Jessica Hobbs, Frank Rich, and Tracey Seaward.
The Regime will feature a total of six episodes, airing weekly on HBO after the premiere on March 3. This series marks Winslet’s third collaboration with HBO, following her Emmy-winning turns in Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown.
