Jodie Whittaker opens up about her excitement landing the role.

It’s only a week now until the new season of Doctor Who premiers. We’ve seen all the trailers, all the photos and can’t wait to watch Jodie Whittaker’s official debut as the first female Doctor in full.

Speaking to Dermot O’Leary on his Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Jodie was asked to recall the moment when her casting felt real to her. She divulged that even before she started filming, it felt real to her because of the response she got from Doctor Who fans.

“I think the day after the reveal, after Wimbledon… I think that is an odd way round – you become famous for a job before you’ve even done it. So, that felt very real,” she began.

“The filming of it, the first day, the first time you say certain words or lines, it’s really exciting and then it’s done and it’s on film forever, so you can kind of settle into the role. But it is very much a bubble for nine months.

“You’re shooting away from home, with, like I said, these amazing people, having a laugh and no-one’s seeing it.”

She also added that she is 100% with us in our excitement for the first episode to air:

“I think once now it’s entering into the public domain, it’s its own [thing],” she continued. “I’m just ready for it to come out. Because for me, I want to see it. I’ve only seen episode one and just knowing what’s to come… it’s brilliant, it’s really brilliant. The actors in it are phenomenal.”

Tune in to BBC One on Sunday, October 7 at 6.45pm for Doctor Who’s return, ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth’.
