Irène Jacob and Dominic West in The Affair (2014)

Showtime announced on Thursday that The Affair has been renewed for a 5th and final season. The news comes in the midst of its current season, which has four episodes left, with its finale set to air on Aug. 19.

“We love the intimacy, the nuance and the emotional honesty of The Affair’s subjective examination of both infidelity and fidelity,” Gary Levine, Showtime’s President of Programming, said in a statement. “Sarah Treem has always envisioned this as a five-season series, and we will be fascinated to see where she takes her talented cast and all of us next year in its climactic season.”

Season 4 of the acclaimed drama series has relocated Noah Solloway (Dominic West), ex-wife Helen (Maura Tierney), their children and Helen’s boyfriend, Vic (Omar Metwally), from New York to Los Angeles, while Alison (Ruth Wilson) moves on with a former Marine, and Cole (Joshua Jackson) gets tangled up with a new woman. Their lives remain intertwined though they’ve drifted farther apart.

The current season also stars Sanaa Lathan, Christopher Meyer, Phoebe Tonkin, Russell Hornsby and Ramon Rodriguez.

Over the last four seasons, The Affair has explored the consequences of infidelity and the effect it has on two marriages. The TV drama won three Golden Globes with Wilson winning the award for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2015.

The Affair airs every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
