The Agency has only been available on Paramount+ and Showtime for a few days, but the streaming giant is betting big on its future. After its first episode attracted 5.1 million viewers globally, the espionage drama led by Michael Fassbender has promptly been renewed for its second season.
Based on the French series Le Bureau des Legendes, The Agency centers on a covert CIA agent who must leave the undercover life behind and return to London Station, where he’s thrust into a deadly game of international intrigue after the love he left behind suddenly reappears.
Michael Fassbender leads the star-studded cast of this series, which also includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Reza Brojerdi, Richard Gere, and Hugh Bonneville.
Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, announced the show’s renewal and praised everyone who transformed it into an instant success.
“The success of ‘The Agency’ is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ to its next phase of growth. This achievement is a testament to the creative power of the team led by George Clooney, Jez Butterworth, Joe Wright, and David Glasser and our incredible cast,” said McCarthy in a statement.
The Agency premiered on Paramount+ with the first two episodes on November 29 before its linear debut on December 1, while the remaining eight episodes will debut weekly.
