The Boys is coming back for its fourth season this week, and Eric Kripke shared an important update about its future ahead of its premiere. Prime Video’s hit superhero series will come to its “gory, epic, emotional climax” with the upcoming fifth season.

It’s been a month since Prime Video renewed The Boys for Season 5, and its creator Eric Kripke finally confirmed what fans have been suspecting all along. This will be the final chapter of this hit series, and he said this was his plan all along, but he waited for Amazon to give him the green light to share the news with the world.

“I think for about a year, they were sort of very, very lovingly saying, ‘Well, maybe you’ll want to do more? Are you sure?’ But when they saw that I was pretty dead set on Season 5, they went along with it. And I really am grateful,” Kripke told Variety.

The hit Prime Video series chronicles the never-ending battle between the corrupt superhero team The Seven and the group of vigilantes trying to expose them, known as The Boys. Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, and Karen Fukuhara lead its ensemble cast.

The Boys will return for the eight-episode Season 4 on June 13.
