There was little love lost in the relationship between Margaret Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth II.

The former Prime Minister served in the position from 1979 until 1990, during which time she met weekly with the head of the monarchy, who was just 6 months her junior.

The relationship between the two strong women will be featured in the fourth season of The Crown, which is currently in production.

Producers have confirmed that Gillian Anderson, who was most recently seen in fellow Netflix production Sex Education, will play the role of Thatcher, opposite Olivia Colman, who will now step into the shoes of The Queen.

“I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman,” Anderson said in a statement. “Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable, but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”

In spite of Anderson’s casting, it will still be a while before we see her Thatcher on screen (in season 4) as season 3 of The Crown is only set to premiere on November 17th.
