The CW has been on somewhat of a cancelation streak lately, but they’re still rewarding potential when they see it. The Canadian crime drama Wild Cards made quite a splash since its premiere last month, and it’s already eyeing the Season 2 renewal.
Wild Cards centers on a demoted by-the-book detective Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) and a spirited con woman Max Mitchell (Vanessa Morgan), who have been given a chance to redeem themselves and get their lives back on track if they agree to work together and use their unique skills to solve crimes.
Wild Cards premiered on The CW on January 17, one week after its initial debut on CBC in Canada. According to Nielsen, this series has been averaging over 500,000 in live overnights, and The CW president of entertainment Brad Schwartz is expecting it to go to around one million over the first seven days.
He discussed its future in a recent interview with Deadline and said they’ll most likely bring it back for another ride.
“That’s a nice success for us… We have not renewed it yet but that is a conversation that’s happening right now. It’s the type of show that could run for ten seasons, those shows don’t exist much anymore. It really could be something,” said Schwartz.
