The first season of The Day of the Jackal is yet to end its run, but Sky and Peacock are already betting big on its future. The British crime drama starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch has been doing great on both sides of the pond, and it’s just been renewed for its second season.
According to its official logline, The Day of the Jackal centers on “an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin [who] makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee” until meeting his match “in a tenacious British intelligence officer who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”
Eddie Redmayne leads the show’s cast alongside Lashana Lynch and serves as one of its executive producers alongside its creator Ronan Bennett. Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi and Florisa Kamara star in supporting roles.
The Day of the Jackal draws inspiration from Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name, which previously inspired several film adaptations before getting the TV treatment. Its renewal comes shortly after its premiere in the US, where it topped Peacock’s top 10 list, in addition to becoming Sky’s top-rated original of all time after seven days with 3 million views.
