The second season of The Diplomat has been a long time coming, and its comeback is finally on the horizon. Netflix announced this political thriller series will be back in October and shared a first look at Keri Russell returning as ambassador Kate Wyler.

Russell leads The Diplomat in the role of Kate Wyler, who must defuse an international crisis, forge strategic alliances, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight after being sent to serve as the new United States ambassador to the United Kingdom.

According to the show’s creator Debora Cahn,  Kate will face an even bigger challenge in Season 2, after realizing that she was brought to the UK under false pretenses.

“Season 1 ended with Kate’s realization that the attack on a British warship [that] brought her to the UK wasn’t the work of a hostile nation – it was the British prime minister. Now she has to prove it… So how do you investigate the PM? Who do you trust?” Cahn told Tudum.

In addition to Russell, Season 1 also starred Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh. Allison Janney is set to join them as Vice President Grace Penn in Season 2, which will premiere on Netflix on October 31.
