Denis Villeneuve did a great job reviving the Dune franchise, and it was just a matter of time before this universe started expanding. That moment is finally here after Max dropped the first trailer for Dune: Prophecy, which chronicles the origins of the Bene Gesserit.
Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, and it “follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit,” according to the show’s official logline.
Emily Watson and Olivia Williams will lead the cast as Valya and Tula Harkonnen, the co-founders of the Bene Gesserit, and they’ll be in pretty good company. The supporting cast of this series includes Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
This spin-off was originally developed under the title Dune: The Sisterhood, but it went through several changes on its journey to our small screens. Diane Ademu-John created the series for Max, but eventually exited the project, letting Alison Schapker take over as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
Dune: Prophecy will premiere on Max this fall with six episodes, but the streamer is yet to announce its release date.
