The sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale was a long time coming, and Hulu is finally making it happen. Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich recently dropped hints about the show’s future, and revealed it will kick off production this summer and premiere in 2025.

Erwich recently set down with Deadline to discuss the future of several Hulu and Disney+ projects, and took a moment to reveal what the future has in store for the hit adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s seminal novel.

The Handmaid’s Tale is going to production this summer, premieres in 2025. In development we have The Testaments behind that, which is an extension of The Handmaid’s franchise so we have a very robust slate of scripted programming that we’re really excited about,” said Erwich.

The Handmaid’s Tale was originally expected to kick off production in 2023 and premiere this fall, but Season 6 was delayed in the face of the labor disputes in Hollywood last year. Its creator Bruce Miller is currently developing the spin-off The Testaments, set years after the events of its final season.

Season 5 cast of The Handmaid’s Tale included Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, and Madeline Brewer, and it’s safe to assume they’ll be back for the final chapter.
