The Last of Us is one of the most-talked-about shows to premiere this year and it was just a matter of time before major awards started coming its way. The post-apocalyptic drama won big at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards and topped the list of winners with three awards.
The Last of Us defeated the likes of Stranger Things, The White Lotus, Wednesday, Wolf Pack, Yellowjackets, and Yellowstone to win one of the biggest awards of the night: best show. Pedro Pascal picked up two trophies for his performance on this show: best hero and best duo, alongside Bella Ramsey.
The list of major winners in the TV categories also included Jenna Ortega, who had to beat tough competition to win a trophy for best performance in a show for Wednesday. Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn won a trophy for best breakout performance, while Jennifer Coolidge collected the award for the most frightened performance for The White Lotus.
This year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards were a somewhat somber affair after the live show was canceled in the face of the ongoing WGA strike. The host Drew Barrymore dropped out in solidarity with the writers and many stars followed suit, forcing MTV to shift to a pre-taped virtual ceremony.
