Our favorite hosts and humans made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, where they premiered the trailer for the third season of Westworld.

The sci-fi fantasy series took quite a turn at the end of season 2, with Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood) leaving the park and entering the real world, and several characters seemingly meeting their demise.

The trailer confirmed the return of Ed Harris (the Man in Black), Luke Hemsworth (Ashley Stubbs), and Rodrigo Santoro (Hector Escaton), while Aaron Paul has signed on for the third installment as a construction worker named Caleb.

“You’ll see very early on this season that Caleb has a complicated past,” Paul said. “There’s a bit of a white hat and a black hat.”

Production of season 3 is still underway, but creator Jonathan Nolan gave an idea of where we’re heading.

“When we started, Westworld was a dystopia, and now three seasons in, it’s kind of the best case scenario,” he said. “The form of AI we have on the show is thoughtful — murderous, but thoughtful. I think we’re headed into the world of artificial stupidity.”

Westworld will return in 2020.
