BBC’s crime comedy The Outlaws is returning for its third season this week, but this could be its final chapter. The show’s co-creator and star Stephen Merchant recently addressed its future and revealed The Outlaws will be “rested” after Season 3 comes to an end.
The Outlaws centers on a group of seven strangers whose lives take a wild turn when they find a bag full of cash while completing a community payback sentence in Bristol. They take the money without knowing it belongs to some pretty dangerous people, setting in motion a chain of events that will forever change their lives.
Merchant leads the ensemble cast of this series, which also includes Christopher Walken, Rhianne Barreto, Darren Boyd, Gamba Cole, Jessica Gunning, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Charles Babalola.
Merchant also co-created this series alongside Elgin James, and he said “never say never” to revisiting this story, while also adding he’s planning to take a break after Season 3.
“I think this series concludes in a very nice way and hopefully might bring a tear to the eye… I’ve enjoyed the cast, filming in my hometown of Bristol, and dropping into this genre. It ticks a lot of boxes for me in terms of what I wanted to do with it,” Merchant told Deadline.
