After leading ABC’s sitcom Last Man Standing for almost a decade, Tim Allen is gearing up for another collaboration with this network. He landed a lead role in their pilot for the multi-camera sitcom Shifting Gears, which hails from Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully.

This promising project will center on Matt, described as “a stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop.” A real restoration in Matt’s life begins when his estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house after hitting a rough patch.

Duncanville co-creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully created this series for ABC, and they’ll executive produce it alongside Last Man Standing EPs Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina, plus the studio 20th Television.

Even though ABC only gave this project a pilot order, the future of Shifting Gears is looking bright. It’s the first pilot order for ABC this season, so it’s safe to assume they have high hopes for this project, given their successful history with Allen.

The veteran actor-comedian previously led the hit sitcom Last Man Standing, which aired on ABC for six seasons before moving to Fox for the final three. He currently stars in the Disney+ Christmas comedy The Santa Clauses, based on The Santa Clause film series.
