Max’s crime drama Tokyo Vice took us on one wild ride, but the adventure is over for now. The streaming giant pulled the plug after two seasons, but its creators are still holding onto hope they could bring it back in the future.

Tokyo Vice starred Ansel Elgort as Jake Adelstein, an American journalist who moves to Tokyo after securing a job at a Japanese newspaper. After a veteran detective takes him under his wing, he starts delving deeper into the corrupt world of Tokyo’s seedy underworld.

In addition to Elgort, this series also starred Ken Watanabe, Rachel Keller, Hideaki Itō, Show Kasamatsu, Ella Rumpf, Rinko Kikuchi, Tomohisa Yamashita, Miki Maya, and Yōsuke Kubozuka.

Tokyo Vice creator J.T. Rogers and director Alan Poul thanked Max for supporting them through thick and thin and allowing them to tell their story.

“Not only did they give us these two seasons, they said yes when we asked to end season one with a series of cliffhangers, and they said yes when we asked for two extra episodes so we could land the plane in the way J.T. had always envisioned,” said the duo in a statement.

They also added that “there is more story to tell” because fans have engaged deeply with these characters and they’re “clamoring for more”, but it remains to be seen what the future holds.
