It’s been a decade since True Detective took HBO by storm, and its first season held the record for the most-watched installment of this series ever since… until now. True Detective: Night Country just became the new leader, with 12.7 million cross-platform viewers.
HBO recently made a smart choice to push up the latest episode of Night Country from Sunday to Friday to avoid the conflict with the Super Bowl, and this decision certainly paid off. Episode 5 reportedly has tallied 5 million viewers since its early Max debut, pushing the Season 4 viewership numbers to 12.7 million cross-platform viewers.
Night Country attracted some pretty impressive numbers since debuting on January 14 to an audience of two million, only for that number to grow to 7.5 million viewers just a week later. The majority of its viewership numbers come from Max, and not from the original HBO telecast.
The show’s fourth season saw Issa López taking over as showrunner from Nic Pizzolatto, in addition to serving as writer, director, and executive producer. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis lead the series as two detectives from Ennis, Alaska, forced to deal with ghosts of their post while trying to solve the death of the eight men who vanished from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.
